COME , VISIT DELHI !

Delhi, the capital of India has a lot to offer any tourist. It is a city which has seen the rise and fall of many dynasties of kings, been invaded many times, and parts of it destroyed. But like phosnix, it has always risen from the ashes.  The culture in Delhi is a mix of many cultures - some old and some new, some almost primitive and some ultra modern.

Wherever you look you will see contrasts.  You will see bullock carts and flashy  new cars competing for the same space on a crowded street. You will find washermaen beating clothes on stones by the river to clean them, and you will find up-to-date laundries.  You will see ancient buildings, centuries old, and you will see modern highrises. You will see a hut which is just four poles with sacking stretched across the top, and not too far away an elaborate and palatial home.

You wll find highly educated people, and illiterates. You will see village women in their brightly colored lehngas (long, full skirts) with long kurtas and chunnies , and young girls with tight fitting jeans and short blouses.

Remember India has been independent for just a little ovet 60 years. It has come a long way in every way.  Literacy rate has gone up from 7% to over 60%. The economy is doing  well even in the present economic crisis. There is still much to be done, but it is happening. Come with an open mind.
