BE SURE TO VISIT DILLI HAAT (Delhi Market)

While in Delhi you MUST visit Dilli Haat. It is located in the center of Delhi and is somewhat like a weekly market but organized on a much higher scale. It is a permanent "Haat" which offers a combination of handicrafts, food and cultural activities. The objective of the Haat is to provide marketing facilities to rural artisans and craftsmen in the Indian capital without the intervention of middle men.  It also offers the tourist the arts and handicrafts from the different parts of the country. The bazaar is spread over an area of 6 acres and has a traditional Indian village look. It has a plaza paved with brick and stone , with grass, flowering shrubs and trees.  

The 62 stalls of Dilli Haat are full of a variety of handicrafts , handlooms, woodcarvings, camel hide products, footwear, excellent fabrics, ready made Indian clothes in cotton, silk, and wool. gems and beads, metal work, and more. The handicrafts stalls are allocated on a 15-day rotation to craftsmen from different parts of he country. This way handicrafts are available to visitors at every visit.

The food center of the Haat has 16 big and 9 small food stalls. All the State Tourism Corporations take these stalls in order  to make ethnic food from different parts of he country available in one place. An International Food Plaza is proposed to make international foods available  from different countries of the world in rotation. Various embassies have been invited to organize the food festival.
