Old Delhi is where the original Delhi was located. This is where the oldest historical buildings of Delhi are to be found. The Lal Qila, or the Red Fort is where the great Mughal emperors lived and held court. This is where the queens and concubines enjoyed playing in the fountains, bought clothes and jewels at Mina Bazaar, or looked through the marble screens to see what was happeneing in the other parts ogf the fort. Here in Diwan-e-Aam, or the commoners court, all requests to the king were brought by commoners, while in Diwan-e- Khas, or the special court, concerns of a higher nature were discussed.This is where the Sound and Light presentation is made in the evenings , relating the history of the court .
Qutub Minar, or Qutub's Tower was built in the 12th century and still stands proudly - illuminated at night so that it can be seen from miles around. The famous Jama Masjid was also built in the middle ages under Mughal emperors, and is still the central place where Muslims gather for prayers specially on Fridays and festival times.
The tomb of Humayun, the second Mughal emperor is located in old Delhi as are also numerous other tombs and ancient buildings. There are parks and gardens laid out in the 15th and 16th centuries which are still visited by thousands each week.
