Sometime back if a horse was unruly or injured the owner would either let it run wild or put it out of its misery. Is horse slaughter inhumane? Some owners say it is inhumane while others say there is need for it. Another argument is that without the slaughter option horses will be neglected, abused, starved or just let loose.
Another view is that unruly and uncontrollable horses, should not be sold . They should also not be left with the calm well mannered horses. Slaughter seems to be the only option. Should there be an organization to arrange for unruly and unwanted horses? Can this organization tame them?
Owners also believe the registry associations have helped to cause the need for slaughter. They make money when horses are registered and sold. They want the owners to go on breeding horses. This can cause overpopulation of horses and put extra burden on owners to take care of them.
The American Quarter Horse Association believes that horse slaughter is a humane method of euthanasia. The say the owner knows what is best for the horse as long as it is treated with dignity and respect. Learn more about horses by going to www.buckeyequarterhorses.com
