WELCOME TO MUMBAI

As your plane came in to land at the Chhatarpati Shivaji Internatonal Airport you got an idea of the sprawl of this city - the most populous city in India with over 17 million people living here.

Once you get off the plane you follow the instructions to get to immigration. As everyone will be going there, it will not be hard to find.  Hopefully you have filled out the landing form before disembarking and have that and yor passport (with the visa stamped in it) in your hand. This generally does not take long. There are separate lines for Indians and International visitors. You will probably be in he shorter line of internationals.

Once you have your passport stamped for arrival and have the form reporting if you have any dutiable  materials (which you probably do not) , you are free to claim your baggage.  There are two exits . One for those who have nothing to declare, and the other for those who do.

If you have been met, you re fine. If your hotel has sent someone to receive you they will be standing on either side of the pathway you will be coming down, so look for your name. Once you have found it, go with the person sent to receive you. They should have their own vehicle and know where it is located. If neither of these is true, go to the PREPAID TAXI booth.  Information for this is given in the blog "COME! Visit India ".

This is where you may be swamped by people trying to carry your baggage, or get you a taxi .  DO NOT go with them. They will want to charge exhorbitant and illegal amounts. If they continue to pester, report to the nearest airport official. Find the vehicle sent for or assigned to you, and you are on your way to your vsit to Mumbai.
