Lactose ,,Intolerance

Lactose is a sugar found in milk and milk products. It requires the enzyme lactase to digest it. If a person's body does not produce  lactase they have "lactose intolerance". The ability to manage this condition depends on the person.

The symptoms of this condition are nausea, gas, bloating, diarrhea or abdominal pain starting from half hour to two hours after consuming lactose. The good news is that now even lactose intolerant people can enjoy lactose containing foods. Lactose free milk and lactose free cheese is now available in most grocery stores. Most of these people can also eat yogurt which contains live cultures. Lactaid or equivalent substances can be taken before consuming lactose containing foods and have no problems. There are many other foods , not just milk, which contain lactose such as many canned, frozen and processed foods, breads, cookies, cereals and others. It is necessary to read the labels.

If you have symptoms of lactose intolerance, check with your doctor. Other conditions like irritable bowel syndrome have similar symptoms. Lactose intolerance may also develop with age as the production of lactase decreases. A visit to www.igoherbalhealth.com may help solve other health problems.
